Torralbenc: Wine, Landscapes and Relaxation in a Magical Setting

A few days ago, I experienced one of those moments that make you fall in love with the island all over again: a guided visit and wine tasting at Bodegas Torralbenc, in the company of Claude, the house sommelier, and a small group of people, including some friends. It was an informal and relaxed plan, unhurried, where every detail was carefully looked after without ever feeling forced. Perfect to disconnect, learn something new, and let yourself be carried away by the flavors of Menorca.

An Estate with History and Menorcan Soul

Torralbenc is much more than a winery. It is a 19th-century estate, located between Maó and Alaior, acquired in 2005 by the Urtasun family — owners of the renowned Remírez de Ganuza winery in La Rioja. After years of restoring the limestone land, it opened in 2013 as an agrotourism hotel and restaurant, and in 2016 they presented their first vintage. Today, the vineyard covers 17 hectares within a 70-hectare estate, with varieties such as Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Malvasia and Pinot Noir. The traditional architecture has been preserved with sensitivity: dry-stone walls, restored old stables, and total integration into the natural surroundings.

A Tour to Be Enjoyed Without Rush

The visit begins with a walk through the vineyards, where Claude explained the planting processes, the work with the soil, and how each variety was adapted to Menorca’s climate. It is not a typical technical visit, but rather a pleasant conversation where you can clearly feel their passion for what they do. The atmosphere was relaxed from the very beginning, with room for questions and comments without formality. Walking through the facilities is also a visual pleasure: everything is carefully designed with a perfect balance between contemporary design and respect for rural heritage.

A Tasting Under the Pergola, with the Taste of the Island

The highlight comes under a plant-covered pergola, where a large table with local cheeses and cured meats was waiting for us. There, we enjoyed a tasting of three wines — white, rosé and red —, all produced on the estate and of surprisingly high quality. Fresh, elegant, and well-defined wines that reflect the character of the land and the care with which they have been crafted. Claude guided us with warmth and expertise, helping us discover nuances and pairings without falling into technical jargon. The experience was as flavorful as it was accessible, ideal both for wine enthusiasts and for those who simply want to enjoy a good glass of wine in an exceptional setting.

Schedule, Price and Recommendations

The Torralbenc winery visit and tasting experience is offered daily at 7:00 pm (from 16/6 to 12/09 and at 12:00 pm from 14/04 to 15/09 and 31/10) and lasts approximately one and a half hours. The price is €35 per person, which is more than reasonable considering the quality of the setting, the level of the wines, the personalized attention and the exclusivity of the small group. It is highly recommended to book in advance, as places are limited and tend to fill up quickly, especially during high season.

An Experience Worth Living

Visiting Torralbenc is much more than tasting good wines: it is connecting with a slower, more refined and authentic Menorca. Everything is designed so that visitors can relax, learn and enjoy without rush, in a space that breathes harmony between tradition and modernity. Whether you are interested in wine, rural architecture, or simply looking for a special sunset experience, this proposal truly has it all.
